What it does for you

Why tint your Tesla?

The silver car’s tinted rear window in the bay, the hexagon lights reflected in it

A cooler cabin

All that glass lets in a lot of sun; ceramic film keeps the heat down, roof glass included.

Less glare

Low sun and glare off the road are easier on your eyes behind tinted glass.

More privacy

Darker rear glass keeps the cabin and what is in it to yourself.

The finished look

Dark, even glass makes a white or silver Tesla look finished.

How it works

How we tint a Tesla

Teslas have more glass than most cars: big frameless side windows, a large rear window and, on most models, a glass roof. We cut the film to fit your exact model and year, so every pane is covered to its edge.

For the roof and the rear glass we recommend Ceramic IR, which blocks the most infrared heat; the side windows can be Carbon IR or Ceramic IR, in any legal shade.

Union film has no metal in it, so it never gets in the way of the phone key, the car’s connection, GPS or the radio.

What decides the price

  • Which Tesla, and which glass: sides, back, glass roof
  • Carbon IR or Ceramic IR
  • Taking off old film first, if there is any

Tint shades

See each tint shade on a car

Every option is Union Window Films film, carbon or ceramic — only the amount of light it lets through changes. Drag the handle across the glass to see the shade land, and we’ll sanity-check your choice against your own car and Washington law before anything is cut.

Washington asks for at least 24% VLT on every side window and the back window of a car; on SUVs, trucks and vans the glass behind the driver can go as dark as you like. Shade also reads differently on every car, so we check it on your glass before we cut.

Which Union film is right for you?

Two Union films, both holding their color for life. The difference is how much heat they stop.

The everyday choice

Carbon IR

75% of the infrared heat blocked

Carbon-particle film. Blocks up to 75% of the infrared heat, holds its color and stays black instead of going purple.

The most heat you can block

Ceramic IR

87% of the infrared heat blocked

The same carbon base with a ceramic layer on top. Blocks up to 87% of the infrared heat, the most heat control Union film offers.

Washington tint law

How dark can you tint in Washington?

The percentage is how much light the window lets through, so 24% is darker than 30%. We keep every window legal for Washington before the film is cut.

Questions

Tesla window tinting questions

Can you tint the glass roof on my Tesla?

Yes. Ceramic IR on the glass roof blocks up to 87% of the infrared heat coming through it, so the cabin stays cooler.

Will tint stop my Tesla phone key working?

No. Union Carbon IR and Ceramic IR have no metal in them, so the phone key, the car’s connection and GPS all work as before.

How dark can I tint my Tesla in Washington?

On a Model 3 or Model S, the side windows and rear glass can be 24% or lighter. On a Model Y, Model X or Cybertruck, the back doors and rear glass can be any shade, and the front doors stay at 24% or lighter.

How long does a Tesla take?

Most Teslas take a few hours, a little longer with the glass roof. We tell you how long when we book.

Can you come to my house to tint my Tesla?

Yes. We come to homes and workplaces across the Puget Sound, or you can drop it at our single bay in Tacoma.
